Steps

1
Done

Take a bowl and add 1/2 cup butter, 1/4th cup castor sugar ( you can grind white sugar into a powder form and use it too or icing sugar) and 1/4th cup brown sugar (alternatively you can use white sugar). If you are adding white sugar then add it a little less than 1/4th cup as white sugar is very sweet and brown sugar is not very sweet. Brown sugar will give you a caramelised flavour and will enhance the flavour of the cookies.
Add 1 tsp vanilla essence.
Now mix all these ingredients for about 2 - 4 minutes.

2
Done

Now, take another bowl and sieve the dry ingredients together.
Add 1 cup all purpose flour (Maida), 1 - 1.5 tbsp corn flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp baking soda in a strainer to sieve the mixture.
Sieving the dry ingredients is a very important step in any baking recipe.
The corn flour makes the cookies chewy/ gooey.
If you want your cookies hard and like a biscuit then do not add corn flour.
After sieving the dry ingredients into the bowl add the chocolate chips.
Heavy ingredients like Chocolate chips or Walnuts should be added to Maida; this will ensure the Maida coats it well and while baking it will not sink to bottom.

3
Done

Now add the dry ingredients and chocolate chips mixture to the butter and sugar mixture and mix well.
Add milk little by little as per required approximately 2 - 2.5 tsp.
It should be a dough like consistency.
After the cookie dough is ready, cover the bowl with a cling film plastic and refrigerate it for about 30 - 40 mins.

4
Done

After 30 - 40 mins, remove the dough from the refrigerator. Meanwhile, pre heat the oven at 180º for hour 7 - 10 mins.
Now, grease the baking plate for the cookies with butter or oil You can also use parchment paper.
Take a scooper and scoop the dough and place the dough on the baking plate. You can change the shape of your cookies as desired.
Make sure there is good distance between two scoops, as while baking the cookies will expand.
Bake the cookies for about 12 - 14 mins in the pre heated oven.
You can have it warm or cold.
While serving drizzle some melted chocolate on the top.
