Arrayan Fruit (Arrayanes Fruta): How to Eat and More

What is Arrayan Fruit

Arrayan fruit, also known as the sarte guava or  little guava, is a small fruit in the myrtle family. With a sweet flavor reminiscent of  pears and strawberries, arrayan has been consumed for centuries.

Despite its popularity in Central America, arrayan is relatively unknown outside of the region. However, with growing interest in unique and exotic fruits, more people are beginning to discover the delightful taste of this small but mighty fruit.

In general, arrayan trees prefer elevations between 1,000 and 1,500 feet above sea level. At lower elevations, the trees may struggle with heat stress and disease susceptibility. Higher elevations can result in slower growth rates and decreased yields due to cooler temperatures and shorter growing seasons.

Also the fruit tree can grow up to 20 ft tall when fully matured, making it an excellent shade tree for other crops. To cultivate arrayan, you need well-draining soil that is rich in nutrients and acidic pH levels between 5.0-6.5.

When planting, ensure adequate spacing between trees to allow for proper growth and development of each plant.

Where does arrayan come from?

Arrayanes fruta originates from the rainforests of Central America. It is commonly found in Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, spreading to the north (Mexico) and has been used by indigenous people.
